The transition from Primary pupils to Secondary students can be daunting. Within our Academy, a lot of emphasis is placed on ensuring that the transition process is seamless, with a high level of support to guarantee uninterrupted and importantly accelerated progress for all pupils of all abilities. Pupils who have not achieved a National Standard of Attainment level of 4 in core subject areas and who we feel would benefit from a more personalised curriculum, will study the iLearn Curriculum – this is a group of subjects taught by the same person, focusing on students learning independent enquiry and to consolidate their knowledge with a strong focus on experiential learning. Primary pupils in Years 5 and 6 benefit from an early introduction to our wonderful new Secondary facilities. They also meet staff in the secondary school which helps to build their confidence and enables them to be part of the 3-19 Academy Community.
Key Stage 3-4
At the end of Year 8, students choose their Key Stage 4 options which can include additional subjects not previously taken in Years 7 & 8, such as: Child Development, Health & Social Care, Spanish, and a range of vocational courses including Construction, Hair and Beauty Therapy. This pathway is followed through Years 9, 10 & 11 for their GCSE examinations at the end of Year 11.
The Academy has a five-year programme of study, where students are levelled on a 12 – point scale. F1, F2, F3 are levels below the new level 1. 1-9 are the new GCSE levels.
The Academy aims to ensure that students become well-rounded citizens aspiring to academic excellence, and becoming confident and able young people. Students are able to follow the English Baccalaureate which comprises the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, a Modern Foreign Language (French or Spanish), and a Humanities subject (Geography or History).
All students have personalised timetables. This can include additional support from Learning Mentors, Year Leaders and Teaching Assistants. Additional options can be studied to ensure that all students reach their full potential.
