Joining Nursery

Settling in

Leaving your child for the first time in Nursery can be stressful for both the parents and the child. We will try to make this as easy as possible and will work with you, and your baby to make it a smooth transition.

Home Visits

Home visits are assesed on each individual child and may beoffered if the Nursery Manager or parent/carer feels it is nevessary.

One hour visit, 2 hour visit, morning or an afternoon session

Initially, we encourage parents to spend an hour or so, sharing with us the needs of your child; their special preferences, dislikes, habits, comforts, stage of development, and so forth.  The more we know, the more we can be “just like home” with the added fun of new faces and things to do.   We then offer a two hour, a morning or an afternoon settling in sessions, so that your child can get acquainted with other children and staff.

Keyworker

Every child within our Nursery is assigned with a key worker who will be responsible for the child.  This ensures personal attention to the needs and development of each individual child and family.  This can make settling into the Nursery much easier.  In addition, the Key Worker is in a position to tailor the curriculum to the unique needs of each individual child.

Our Nursery Curriculum

Our Nursery Curriculum

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework supports an integrated approach to early learning and care. It gives all professionals a set of common principles and commitments to deliver quality early education and childcare experiences to all children.

Within our Nursery, your child will mostly be taught through inspirational play and exciting adult led activities.

Prime areas are fundamental, work together, and move through to support development in all other areas.

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development

Specific areas include essential skills and knowledge for children to participate successfully in society.

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Our Vision and Values

Our Vision and Values

We are committed to excellence. We believe in choice.

Our mission is to make sure that all children, regardless of their background, receive a great education that leads to real choices in life.

Our staff are committed to our pupils and students and know the importance of delivering an exceptional standard of education.

Our pupils and students value learning, they are committed to their studies and always give of their best.

We expect every John Wallis student to graduate from our Academy with the qualifications, skills and confidence to achieve their ambitions and go on to higher education or their chosen career.

“We show love and compassion for others by truly helping them, and not merely talking about it.”

1 John 3:18

Our Distinctive Vision:

We are a proud to be Church of England Academy. We serve children of all faith and those with none.

Our Christian values are embedded within the heart and soul of our Academy. They are central to everything we do. Based on the teachings of Jesus, and the stories he told, our school community follow his example in treating everybody as an individual. In judging others by their deeds, not their words. In being, rather than seeming.

Jesus said “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

Our Christian (LIGHT) values of Love, Integrity, Generosity, Hope and Tolerance are all taught explicitly. Our school Bible verse teaches us to show love and compassion for others by truly helping them, and not merely talking about it, which is how the Good Samaritan behaved and how we at The John Wallis Church of England Academy strive to behave in our work and play each day – we do not simply talk about it, we take actions to make things better for others.

Our Nursery Rooms

Our Nursery Rooms

Baby Room – 3 months to 2 years
Staff to child ratio: 1:3

This room is bright, spacious and cosy, providing a relaxed, loving atmosphere where babies can develop to their full potential. Our range of activities consider each child’s age and stage of development. A daily diary is completed for parents/guardians, giving information about their child’s day. We follow each baby’s individual routines and needs. We have a separate outside play area to allow babies to develop their overall development.

Toddler Room – 2 to 3 years
Staff to child ratio: 1:5

The Toddler Room is a fun, stimulating and safe environment. Children participate in and enjoy a wide range of activities, which meet individual needs, such as art, construction, puzzles and role play.  There are also quiet areas for stories and music. We ensure there is plenty of opportunity for physical play both indoors and outdoors.

Nursery Room – 3 to 5 years
Staff to child ratio: 1:13

This is a bright and spacious room, which provides children with the opportunity to learn, grow and develop through adult and child initiated play. We are unique as we have a qualified Nursery Teacher within this room who structures the day to allow the children to develop through activities and individual times with work preparing for the National Curriculum and with the basics of numbers and literacy. Within this room we encourage children’s independence to flourish through a well-planned purposeful environment. Children will learn to explore and investigate to enhance their development for their next transition through to school.

Food/Nutrition

Food/Nutrition

In our Academy, we consider eating healthily and nutritiously to be a very important part of our pupils’ development. All of the meals in our restaurant are freshly cooked using natural and healthy ingredients.

Impact state - “only the highest quality produce”

“Everything has to start with fantastic quality and responsible food. Across our wide, diverse and ever-changing menus, we ensure that every single morsel is safe, sustainable and tastes great. We only source from farmers, wholesalers and catering butchers that are audited to UKAS accredited standards and meet the highest possible assurance levels.”

We believe every child needs a satisfying meal at lunchtime, fuelling them for the afternoon ahead. Nurturing the importance of a healthy and balanced diet, we provide a nutritious meal every day to nourish from within.”

Our menus operate on a three week cycle to ensure plenty of variety and choice.  We cater for children with different dietary requirements.  Staff and children sit together for lunch in the Nursery which helps to improve children’s social skills as well as building good relationships between children and their Key Workers.

Each morning, parents are able to choose their child’s lunch for the day or they can choose to provide their child with a packed lunch.

We would ask that packed lunches are healthy and nutritious and that no chocolate or nut ingredients are given.

We are a 'Nut and Juice Free' Nursery.
