The Art and Design, Graphics and Photography Department consists of 3 Full Time members of staff. All members of staff teach across the entire cohort within the academy and are passionate about sharing their skills, talents and enthusiasm for Art with students.Department Philosophy
We believe in the innate ability in all students to be creative using a wide variety of media and techniques. As well as acknowledging the value of making for purely aesthetic reasons, we also are aware of the practical application of transferable skills and knowledge that students have the opportunity to acquire whilst studying Art and Design including resilience, independence, creativity and self-motivation.
Resources in Department
The Academy currently has 3 purpose-built large Art and Design rooms which are very well equipped with a very
wide range of Art and Design materials. We also boast a suite of Apple i-Macs installed with Adobe Creative Suite
and Photoshop, as well as ceramics room and kiln.
The Curriculum
Year 7 and Year 8
Students in Years 7 and 8 have 2 Art lessons a fortnight over the 2-week timetable. During these 2 years,
students are taught basic skills across a range of media through a series of imaginative projects.

Students can opt to take one or two of three Art and Design courses for GCSE.

Where Can Art and Design Take You?
Art, craft and design embraces an extremely diverse range of specialisms. Successful students could be expected to progress on to higher or further education in a wide range of different fields including: Graphic Design, Three-dimensional Design, Fine Art, Model Making, Theatre Design, Animation, Interior Design, Fashion, Textile Design, History of Art and Design, Conservation, Film, Photography, Teaching, TV, Architecture and Landscape Architecture.
