Primary

Introduction from Miss Lacon – Vice Principal and Head of Primary

Welcome to the Primary Years of The John Wallis Church of England Academy. I am delighted to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit more about life in the Primary: from Nursery and Reception to Year 6, we are committed to raising standards alongside raising the aspirations of every child with whom we share and enjoy a unique journey.

I am pleased to say that our pupils seldom miss an opportunity to demonstrate their passion and their attitude towards learning. When we have guests and visitors to our Academy, I am proud to be able to have confidence that the children will prove to be kind, thoughtful and welcoming hosts. We’ve had visits from the author Luke Temple, The Maths Puzzle Company and all sorts of performers. On every occasion, our pupils have been praised for their behaviour and enthusiasm.

But the children are not only great hosts; they are also brilliant representatives of The Academy on trips and visits, as well as being keen performers and sportspeople themselves. Our pupils have made trips to a wide range of destinations in the local area, including Benenden School, the Rare Breeds Centre and Canterbury Cathedral, as well as travelling to perform at the National Young Voices concert at the O2 Arena in London.

Since opening in September 2012, we have seen the Primary Years of The Academy develop and mature. While The Academy continues to evolve according to the educational needs of our pupils and students, our recent Ofsted judgement of ‘Good’ is a significant highlight, confirming just how far we have come already. Our SATs results from the summer of 2014 also demonstrated a significant increase in our academic results. As we look forward, I know you will be encouraged by the effort and commitment of our staff and pupils in ensuring that we continue to go from strength to strength, providing every child with the very best opportunity to succeed in realising their aspirations.

I am proud of our Academy, and of every pupil and member of staff who each day make the Primary Years such a promising and exciting place of learning. The next sections detail our approach within the Primary Years and will give you an insight into our curriculum and methods of teaching.  We want our children to leave the Primary Years with firm foundations in core skills, to have a love of learning and a curiosity to explore the world around them.  We emphasise respect for oneself and for others within a diverse and exciting community.  I hope the website gives you a flavour of our passion, ethos and commitment to raising standards.
